I am Robert J. Russ, the owner of Home & Garden Pest Solutions. For seven years, from August 2001 to January 2008, I worked for a local pest control company. Before that I was the service manager for Brunswick, Pender, and Columbus counties, at Orkin Pest Control, in Wilmington, NC from April 1996 to July 2001. My training includes general pest, termite, birds and critter control. I have successfully completed courses with Perdue University and Texas A&M, and I’m also a certified sanitarian from the American Institute of Baking. I have serviced over 10,000 homes, hundreds of restaurants, schools, day care centers, supermarkets, Federal and State facilities and National food processing plants without any health or safety violations.
I started Home & Garden Pest Solutions in 2008, because I believe that virtually every other pest control company relies too heavily on chemical controls, and one-size-fits-all pest control, whether it's a hospital, a school, a restaurant, or your home that they're treating. True, there are a lot of people with German roach infestations, or with fleas, or in run-down homes or apartments, where a heavy spraying is required month in and month out. Most of you just want the security of not having the occasional large outdoor roach, spider, earwig, silverfish, or other occasional invaders, from making themselves at home, in your home. Stopping these types of problems can be equally achieved with "Smarter. Safer. Better." principles in and around the home. This is why I continue to study the insects in our area so I know when and why they will come into your homes. I will have news and tidbits on this site as a free portion of my services to my customers and the public in general.
There's a great deal of ignorance and misinformation about pests, pesticides, and pest control. There's a lot of fear of spiders, ants, cockroaches, rats, and pesticides, because most people don't understand the truth about what they do, and why they're around. My primary job is to solve any current or potential pest control problems for my customers, but penultimately to inform the public about pests and the pest control business. Only if I achieve both of these goals, will I consider this business I've started to be a success.
